Is David Lee Roth a rock star? He sees it another way
Today the former frontman of Van Halen David Lee Roth turns 70. The American rocker has never lacked a sense of entertainment and a sense of humor. A few years ago in an episode of his podcast ‘The Roth Show’ he provided a glimpse of the life that a rather singular rock star leads, venturing a parallel that was perhaps a little exaggerated, but certainly entertaining. Comparing his life (and that of his colleagues) to that of a federal prisoner who must testify in court at a major trial.
This is the reasoning proposed by David Lee Roth: “Much of our world hates their jobs. Most of our friends, family, colleagues and contemporaries work from 9am to 5pm or 11am to 7pm. Maybe you play a game of cards on a Friday night. The rest of the time, we kid ourselves and think, ‘yeah, but I go to the gym and work out.’ Yes, just like a federal prisoner. Think about how I live, okay? I am transported from a bus, under security, to a building, where I am taken from underneath the building to a concrete room where I wait. Then I go upstairs and get judged harshly in a room full of people. Then I am taken back downstairs, wait in the room, and reverse the entire process. I am held in a hotel, under security, and move to the next city where the same thing happens. Some people might say ‘that man is a rock star,’ others would call it ‘a federal witness protection program.’”
