How is Morrissey’s tour in Italy?
After a long period of absence and a series of concerts canceled in Europe, Morrissey has returned to tread the Italian stages in this July 2025arousing different reactions between fan and criticism. His absence from Italian stages lasted about 10 years. The former Smiths frontman, a controversial but unquestionably magnetic and special figure, is the protagonist in our country of six dates of intensity, music and lyricism, with a debut atAmphitheater of the Vittoriale of Gardone Riviera, on 23 July. The subsequent ones scheduled: On July 26 in Lucca on the occasion of the Lucca Summer Festival, on July 28 in Rome, Cavea Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, on July 31 in Catania, Villa Bellini, on August 3 in Ostuni for the Locus Festival. Six red circle appointments on the calendar. The inaugural concert at the Vittoriale, which allowed to reveal a first ladder of these “Italian concerts”, He offered nineteen songs for about an hour and a half of musicalternating pieces taken from his solo career with some pearls of the Smiths.
Among the most acclaimed: “Shoplifters of the World Unite”, “How Soon is now?”, “Please, please, please let me get what i want” and “Last Night i Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me”proposed as the only encore due to a technical problem that prevented the execution of “Irish Blood, English Heart”. The choice to make these live represents a real gesture of reconciliation with a country which, until recently, seemed to have definitively excluded from its plans. The reason for that distance dates back to 2017when Morrissey had made it clear that he would never return to Italy again, following an unpleasant episode with the Roman police. An altercation that would have deeply marked the artist and fueled the belief that Italy was no longer a “safe” place for him. But we know how unpredictable Morrissey is. “It is a great honor for me to return to Italy, a country that I have always loved, and to be able to share these songs with you who are part of my life and yours. Thanks for being tonight here,” he said on the first date, which in fact inaugurated his European tour. In short, peace made.
