Grignani, 30 years of “Destination paradise”: unpublished works and rarities
It was February 1995 and on the eve of the final evening of the Sanremo Festival, the debut album of one of the revelations of that edition of the Festival arrived in stores. The artist, twenty-two years old at the time, was called Gianluca Grignani, the album “Destination paradise”, just like the song presented by the talented Milanese singer-songwriter competing among the “New proposals”. Few could have imagined what would happen shortly thereafter: Gianluca Grignani would become one of the idols of the masses and “Destination paradise” one of the best-selling albums of the decade and of Italian music of the last thirty years more generally. Now, thirty years later, Grignani, now 53 years old, announces the release of a special re-edition of “Destination paradise” designed specifically to celebrate the album’s thirtieth anniversary. It will be released on December 5th and will contain unreleased songs and rarities.
It is a special edition designed in six formats between the Italian and Spanish versions, which proved to be a best-seller in the Latin American market. The album will be available on standard gatefold vinyl enriched with a poster exclusive and an eight-page booklet with unpublished photos to relive the journey of “Destination paradise” moment by moment, in digipack CD with a sixteen-page booklet containing never-seen images, stories and details of the album and on special edition vinyl in a limited and numbered edition, designed for true fans and collectors, with an eight-page booklet, an autographed poster and, to make everything even more precious, an exclusive 7″ vinyl containing the demo version of “Falco a Metà”, entitled “Libera Le Ali”, and the instrumental version, study fragments that reveal the magic of the artistic creation of one of Gianluca Grignani’s most beloved songs.
The Milanese rocker says:
I’m really happy with what we’ve built to celebrate 30 years of my first album. Revisiting memories, listening to those emotions again, reliving certain moments with you… it shook me and made me smile, like when you find an old photo. Among many things, I wanted to give you a special gift: the first unreleased version of “Falco a mezzo”, which was then called “Free the wings”. It’s like a fragment of me from thirty years ago, pure and imperfect, but full of that desire to fly that has never left me. I’m curious to know what you think, really.
Along with the announcement of the re-release of “Destinazione Paradiso” came the announcement of the new album featuring the voice of “La mia storia tra le dita” recently reinterpreted by Laura Pausini, whose cover ended up at the center of a dispute between Grignani himself and the Romagna interpreter:
And while we’re talking about gifts… for my birthday I decided to get one too. A gift that I built piece by piece, with care, dedication and truth, as is done with the things that really matter. It’s a project that I’ve had within me for some time, and now the time has finally come to bring it to life. My new album will be released in April: “Emerald green… Remnants of rock’n’roll”. A title that already says it all — a color, a sound, a story.
