Grateful Dead, goodbye to Bob Weir

He died at 78 years old Bob Weirco-founder of Grateful Deadone of the most important rock bands linked to hippie culture. The family announced the news, explaining that Weir, who received a cancer diagnosis last July, died due to lung complications.

Weir was born in 1947 in San Francisco and contributed significantly to define the psychedelic sound of the West Coast rock scene. He played with the Grateful Dead for decades and wrote songs that became classics such as “Sugar Magnolia”, “One More Saturday Night” and “Mexicali Blues”. Last March he also opened up about a historic reunion of the group. Weir’s last concert with the band Dead & Company was held on August 3, 2025 in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, marking the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Grateful Dead.
