Goodbye to Jackmaster: the DJ, house icon, was 38 years old
Goodbye to Jackmaster, real name Jack Revill, Scottish DJ born in 1986 considered an icon of house music. The musician died yesterday morning in Ibiza following an accidental head injury. The news of his passing was confirmed by his family via his official social media channels: “The family kindly requests privacy as they deal with the immense pain of this devastating loss.”
In the post shared to announce the DJ’s death, the family underlined how “Jack’s passion for music and his tireless determination to push creative boundaries through his work with the Numbers label and Glasgow’s Rubadub Records, including the discovery of countless innovative artists” have “made him a beloved figure and pioneering the electronic music community both in front and behind the scenes.” And again: “His talent for blending genres and delivering electrifying DJ sets and productions has earned him the respect and admiration of peers and fans around the world. His legacy will continue to inspire and his impact on the world of dance music will remain indelible”.
Revill was born in Glasgow in 1986 and at the age of 14 began working in a famous record shop in the city, Rubadub, where he got his nickname Jackmaster, in reference to the roots of 80s Chicago house. At 17 he began to take his first steps behind the console.
His reputation as a DJ and performer had grown rapidly: Jackmaster had also founded a record label, Numbers. In 2010 he received the “Breakthrough DJ” award from DJ Magazine.
