Goodbye to Brother Metal
Cesare Bonizzi, also known by the names Fratello Metallo, Frate Cesare, Frate Rock or Frate Metal, passed away at the age of 78. Franciscan friar of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, in recent years he has become famous for his passion for heavy metal music.
Born in Offanengo on 15 March 1946, Brother Cesare became a priest in 1983 after the mission in Ivory Coast. He had always cultivated a passion for rock and metal music, and in 1990 he decided to put his prayers to music and use his songs as a means of preaching to express the contents and values of the Catholic religion. He then recorded sixteen albums until 2009 when he announced his retirement from the world of music with a video on YouTube, because “the devil made him become too famous for his tastes, sowing discord between him and his staff”.
He lived his last years in Salò, in the Capuchin convent of Barbarano.
