Glen Matlock was asked to play with Oasis: “Boring”
After bringing the music of the Sex Pistols back to the stage together with Paul Cook and Steve Jones, but without the former singer Johnny Rotten (born John Lydon), replaced by Frank Carter of the Rattlesnakes, Glen Matlock gave a long interview to NME. During the chat with Jordan Bassett, in addition to discussing what the future holds for the historic British punk band with Carter and his thoughts on Lydon’s lyrics, the “tacky” Danny Boyle biopic “Pistol” and “that cute idiot” Sid Vicious, the bassist talked about the time he was invited to join Oasis.
Matlock, currently touring the UK to promote his 2023 solo album ‘Consequences Coming’, recalled being asked to play with the ‘Wonderwall’ band when asked what he thought of the enthusiasm for the band’s reunion concerts. Gallagher brothers. “If you’re a fan, it’s understandable,” said the 68-year-old musician: “They have a lot of fans. I’ve always seen Oasis a bit like Status Quo: listening to a song once is enough. I find them all a bit I know them, though, they’re good guys and I have to be careful what I say because I run into Noel a lot. And I think Liam sings great, he’s like Johnny Rotten a magnetic personality on the stage: he can just stand there and he’s addictive, I think he’s boring live. Asked if he has ever been to see Oasis in concert, Glen Matlock then revealed when, around 1995 or 1996, the group discussed with him the possibility of joining the band as a bassist. Matlock narrated:
“Many years ago, around 1995 and 1996, there was a bit of talk about me helping them on bass. But then they sorted out the problems they had with the guy they were playing with. I was invited to see them at Earl’s Court. I left. They were boring. I went to see them again in New York with Clem Burke from Blondie.
