Giorgia’s third half: “This is how my career started again”
“I knew that festival would be difficult, but I still wanted to participate with a song that I felt was mine. Going to Sanremo is never easy for me, because I not only have to present a song but I also have to have respect for what my past represented at the Festival. I didn’t expect it, but my career started right from there. A tour in the theaters, then the summer performances and concerts in the arenas. You discover that even the difficult moments are important and, if you understand them, they help you.” Giorgia is speaking and the allusion is to her participation, understated, at the Sanremo Festival two years ago. The Roman singer competed again at the Ariston twenty-two years after the last time, but with “Parole dette male” she didn’t leave her mark. Now two and a half years later Giorgia, in the meantime reborn after returning to that stage in February with “La cura per me” (she didn’t win: she placed sixth, but the public’s affection effectively crowned her the moral winner), returns to the recording scene with a new album of unreleased songs, “G”. It comes out on November 7th and the 54-year-old voice of “Come saprei” presented it to the press today – after a pre-listening to the songs from the album – in a Milanese club.
“G” is an album composed of twelve songs which bears a completely personal title. Georgie he says he has changed his modus operandi. In the last period she had closed in on herself a little, she had retreated to doing everything alone believing that it was the best for her. With the new album, however, she discovered that she needed to return to the recording studio every day, to return to exchange information for advice with those who are beyond the glass, in her case, first of all, Slait: “I tried to be me in every song. I launched a formula whereby, although the lyrics had a younger metric, I carved out a space for myself Giorgia, in which I am me”, explained the singer.
The songs on the new album have an electronic imprint – “I have always loved electronic music and therefore I felt at ease” – and were written by new generation authors, such as Blanco himself, Mara Sattei, Alessandro La Cava, Nuvola: “I intervened very little on the lyrics. These kids, compared to those of my generation, are more aware, they seem to have lived and metabolized experiences more quickly, they are more centered, they know what they want, they have clearer ideas. To give an example, ‘Paradoxical’ seems to be written by someone who has lived through it, who has learned from a disappointment and overcome it.”
On the album there is, to close the tracklist, an unreleased version of that one “The cure for me” written for Giorgia by Blancoin duet with its author. The song represents the only collaboration on the album, with slightly modified lyrics: “I had thought about singing it as a duet with Blanco himself on the cover night at Sanremo, but Blanco wasn’t planning on taking part in the festival. He had other plans for that period. However, the one with Annalisa was a nice duet”.
The tour of the sports halls will start from Jesolo on November 25th. Ferdinando Salzano of F&P explains that with Georgie “It’s always a tug of war to convince her to commit to a tour”: “While other artists ask me to do more and more concerts, with her it’s the opposite: she asks me to go lower.” To those who ask her if she would like to do concerts in stadiums, she pleasantly withdraws: “No stadiums, I’ve never thought about it and I’m not interested. If anything, I’d like to go back to performing in clubs”.
