Freddie Mercury’s alleged “secret daughter” dies at 48
Freddie Mercury’s alleged “secret daughter” dies at 48. His existence first emerged last year and she said she maintained a close relationship with the singer until his death in 1991. Reports that the late frontman may have had a daughter first emerged last May, with the publication of a new biography titled “Love, Freddie” by Lesley-Ann Jones. THEThe book explores the “Bohemian Rhapsody” singer’s life and claims the child was conceived accidentally during an affair with the wife of a close friend in 1976. The woman is referred to in the book only as “B” and claimed that Mercury maintained a very close relationship with her until his death in 1991. The biography – written by journalist Lesley-Ann Jones – also claims that the singer visited her regularly and gave her 17 volumes of highly detailed personal diaries. Today it was confirmed that “B” died at the age of 48. The news was spread by her husband, Thomas, who released a statement to Daily Mail. In it he explained that the woman died “peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare tumor of the spine.” and who leaves “two children aged nine and seven”.
There is widespread skepticism that she was indeed the rock star’s daughterbut Jones told the Daily Mail that, when three years ago she was contacted by “B”, her first instinct was “to doubt everything, but I am absolutely certain that she is not a mythomaniac”.
“No one could have faked all this. Why would he have worked with me for three and a half years without ever asking for anything?”, he added. The journalist also claimed that Queen’s songs “Don’t Try So Hard” and “Bijou” were written for “B”, as reported by The Independent. Skepticism about the claims also came from Mary Austin, Mercury’s ex-partner and great friend, who declared that the singer “had a splendid openness towards the world and I cannot imagine that he would have wanted, or could, to keep such a joyful event secret, neither from me nor from the people closest to him”. Bandmate Brian May also said he wanted to remain “neutral” on the issue, while his wife Anita Dobson described “B’s” claims as “fake news”.
