Freddie Mercury: does her ‘intimate diaries’ have the “secret daughter”?
Of one, true or presumed, Freddie Mercury’s “secret daughter” has been talked about for a few months (we have already reported here, here and here ).
The news was connected to the exit of “Love, Freddie”, written in Lesley -Ann Jones (already author of more than a biography of the Queen singer), who has now also been published in Italy by Sperling & Kupfer with the title “With Love, Freddie – The secret diaries of Freddie Mercury” (400 pages, € 22.90 – in the photo of the article).
Reading the first pages of the book, I recognize that Lesley Ann-Jones is convincing, in her story of how it was contacted by email by this woman-whose name is silent, and which indicates with the initial “B”-and how it has had access to “seventeen diaries, four of which are bound in dark blue canvas, the remaining thirteen are bound in leather, five are black, two dark blue, two color. Rossi and two dark green. The mysterious “secret daughter” claims to have had them as a gift from Freddie before he died. And he told Jones that he was the result of a only one night relationship with the wife of a friend of Mercury, a friend of whom he brings the surname, who agreed to recognize her as a daughter also based on a pact entered into with Freddie. Mercury would have seen her often, frequented regularly and would have been a caring and love father for her, in spite of the difficulty of organizing those meetings (it says that, to facilitate them, in her family homes there was a room reserved for Mercury visits). They detail them abundantly, pointing out on some occasions where and when they have verified. He speaks of “a very small stain of the skin under the left eye” of Freddie who, he says, may have noticed only those who frequented him closely.
All this is summarized in the first chapter of the book – I did not go further for the moment.
What can I say? If that of Freddie Mercury’s secret daughter is a huge invention, it was built very carefully. And surely it will facilitate the sales of the book … even if in the promotional information of the publisher there is never talk of a “daughter”, but only of “a dear person to whom Freddie secretly entrusted the collection of his diaries just before dying”.
It must be said, however, that – as far as a very authoritative source tells me – in the environments of the most competent Lesley -Ann Jones fans does not enjoy good fame: one of the most referable adjectives with which it is described is “mythomaniac” …
