For Don Felder Duane Allman was the best of all

In a recent interview given to Classic Rock, the former guitarist of Eagles Don Felder he also talked about the Allman Brothers Band The 76-year-old Florida-born musician recalled being a member of bands rivaling the Allman Brothers in his youth and how that later influenced his musical life.

In fact, Felder never cared much whether he prevailed or not in this battle between bands. “We were always in band battles, and they won them all. If I had to lose a match like that, I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather lose to.”

Felder was from the southern United States and grew up in the same area as the members of the Allman Brothers Band, with some of them he was also very good friends. Having previously collaborated with several musicians in his hometown of Gainesville, Don Felder he received a slide guitar lesson from his peer Duane Allman.

Don Felder he remembered once asking him how he got that soulful sound. “They were the best band, Duane was by far the best guitarist and Gregg was a fantastic singer with a fantastic voice. Later we ended up at his mother's house, Duane on the floor playing slide guitar. I told him, 'You have to show me how to do it!' If Duane hadn't taught me how to do it, none of this probably would have happened. He's still the best slide player I've ever heard.”
