Farewell to Maurizio Pollini, piano legend
Farewell to Maurizio Pollini, piano legend. The pianist and conductor passed away today at the age of 82. The musician had been ill for some time and for health reasons he had canceled the last scheduled concerts. The funeral chamber, as already happened for Carla Fracci, will be held at La Scala, a theater to which Maurizio Pollini was particularly attached (he made his debut on the stage of the Milanese theater at the age of sixteen, in 1958, performing the world premiere of the Fantasia for piano and stringed instruments by Ghedini). In 2007 Pollini won the Grammy Award for “Best Instrumental Solo Performance (without orchestra)”, for his recording of Chopin's Nocturnes.
