Elton John’s two marriages
Elton John he is married to the Canadian film director and producer David Furnish fifteen years younger than him. The two met at a party in 1993 and got engaged the following year. Elton and David married twice, the first in 2005 and the second in 2014, also on 21 December. Below are the articles we dedicated to their weddings.

Stag party (but some wicked British commentator wrote “hen party”) for Elton John. Last night, while awaiting the civil union with partner David Furnish, the two welcomed friends and acquaintances at “Too2Much”, a club in the Soho area of London. Once upon a time, “Raymond’s Revue Bar” was located in the “Too2Much” premises, the oldest strip club in the British capital. Among the beautiful names who welcomed Sir Elton’s invitation: Ozzy Osbourne accompanied by his wife Sharon and children Jack and Kelly, Janet Street-Porter, Cilla Black, Bryan Adams, Kid Rock, Jack Shears (Scissor Sisters), Tamara Mellon (of the luxury shoe company Jimmy Choo), composer Tim Rice, actress Liz Hurley, actor Orlando Bloom, comedian Paul O’Grady. Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys sang a Gloria Gaynor song, then Take That appeared (without Robbie), singing “Relight my fire”. Inside, champagne and sushi were served galore. It appears that Sir Elton’s “real” stag party will take place this evening in a marquee in the gardens of his Windsor mansion. The “yes” is expected tomorrow.

Elton John and his partner David Furnish got married this morning in the town hall of Windsor, who – as already announced in the past – took advantage of the first day in the United Kingdom for the regularization of homosexual couples: as reported by the ANSA agency, the two , dressed soberly in black, were greeted by over 7000 fans upon leaving the ceremony. After the wedding, the couple opted for a simple lunch with their parents.

What is perhaps the most romantic city in the world serves as a worthy setting for the honeymoon of Elton John and David Furnish, who three days ago regularized their union thanks to the new British legislation on same-sex couples. Sir Elton and Mr. Furnish are in Venice, at the least known of the Rocket Man’s residences, the house that the Pinner singer owns in Giudecca. The couple also stopped by Piazza San Marco, writes the “Sun”. And the “Mirror” adds that the two looked like a couple of kids in love.

The latest leaked rumors: during a stop at Harry’s during the couple’s visit to Venice, Pinner’s pianist would also have his dog, the cocker Arthur, sit at the tables of the luxurious bar. Another curiosity: Elton John’s full name, at the registry office, would be Hercules Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

It is not a question of goat wool, but rather, at least for students of etiquette, a kind of puzzle: in fact, never before, in the long and glorious history of Britain, had a man married another man. And you pass. But then how to refer, correctly, to the husband of a man who is Sir? Until December 21st, custom granted, although not in all cases, the title of “Lady” to Sir’s wife. So here Heather Mills, wife of Sir Paul McCartney, could also be called Lady McCartney. Whether he doesn’t do it is his business. Yes, but could David Furnish, who married Elton civilly a few days ago under the new British laws on same-sex couples, legally call himself Lady John? Alas, no: at least that’s what the venerable Debrett’s, which publishes the Bible of aristocracy and the label “Peerage and baronetage”, has ruled. Debrett’s spokesman said: “Although they are married, people should continue to call him simply Mr David Furnish.”

This certainly seems to be the case – as reported by the Daily Mirror – on December 21st Elton John and David Furnish, his partner since 1993, will get married. The couple is actually already married, having been married in a civil ceremony on 21 December 2005 in the town hall of Windsor.
“We don’t feel the need for this further step towards ‘legality’,” David Furnish tells the Las Vegas Review Journal, “we just think it’s important to take this step and take advantage of this incredible change in British law. (The Gay Marriage Act) came into force in Great Britain last March.) We live to be an example and we will probably be one for other gay couples.” Adds Elton John: “If the laws help us any more, as a famous same-sex couple, we will. It’s our duty, to make sure that everyone knows that this is some kind of gift that we never dreamed of having. And to think that thirty , forty years ago it was difficult to even just declare yourself gay.”. The ceremony will be held in their home in Windsor and will be attended by around fifty guests. The singer and his partner have two sons, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, born on December 25, 2010, to whom the song “Levon” is dedicated, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, born on January 11, 2013. Both children were born through a “rented” mother.
