Having the texts already provided by Bernie TaupinElton wrote the music in one of the halls of the transatlantic, the Salon Debussy and, having no way of doing otherwise, he memorized everything, in order to later record the Caribou Ranch with the manufacturer Gus Dudgeon.
Despite the absence of Hit, Bernie’s evocative texts join Elton’s melodies creating a small masterpiece and becoming one of the best -selling cult albums of all time. An album full of intense Platonic love songs. The artwork of the album of Alan Aldridge it is immediately recognizable; The cover shows Elton at the center of a imaginative imaginary landscape, fleeing the rainy suburban bubble and riding his piano through the many distractions of pop celebrity.

We tried it as a band and recorded more or less live. The band was at the top and it can be heard on the record. I think it was the best thing. Weaves of brilliant Bernie and the atmosphere at Caribou was perfect.
Speaking of the album, Bernie Taupin He said: “Of all our record production, ‘Captain Fantastic’ occupies a very special place in my heart. Obviously it was emotionally rewarding as he told a particular moment of our life. I am not by nature one who crogsulates in nostalgia, but listening to this album once again 50 years later reminds me how deep our bond of friendship and creativity was”.
