Eddie Vedder takes the stage with The Who

The frontman of Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder last night he surprisingly joined the Who – accompanied in concert by The Heart of England Orchestra – in the second of two charity concerts held by the band Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Presented by the singer of Who Roger Daltrey as “a cool guy”, Eddie Vedder joined the band to perform “The Punk and the Godfather”a song included on the 1973 album by Who “Quadrophenia” (read the review here).

It was previously announced that
Eddie Vedder
with
Robert Plant, Saving Grace, Paul Weller and Kelly Jones
of the
Stereophonics
he would play with
Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend
at the Ovation, the final evening of concerts in favor of
Teenage Cancer Trust
scheduled for Sunday 24 March, but evidently he reached London a few days early and thought it best to give his old heroes an impromptu.

Earlier this year,
Roger Daltrey
revealed that, in the past, he had to “beg” bands to perform at shows
Teenage Cancer Trust
– an initiative he has been carrying out since 2000 – but, addressing the audience present, he declared that
Eddie
Vedder
: “He was there every time I asked him to be there.”

This evening the week in favor of the

Teenage Cancer Trust
continues with the performance of
Noel Gallagher
accompanied by his family
High Flying Birds
on March 22nd it will be the turn of the
Young Fathers
will follow on the 23rd
Chemical Brothers
and, finally, to close the evening on March 24th
“Ovation – A Celebration of 24 Years of Gigs For Teenage”
.

Speaking to Classic Rock last year about his experience managing the concert side of the
Teenage Cancer
Trust Roger Daltrey
he described it as an incredible journey. “I will still be a supporter of the charity and will continue to speak on behalf of the charity. We have achieved something incredible, we wanted to build 25 hospital wards across the country for teenage cancer patients, and we have kept that promise – in fact we built 30 of them.”
