Ed Sheeran, the irrepressible: “Two albums of unpublished in 18 months”
Not even the time to publish “Play” (it comes out on Friday) which Ed Sheeran already announces that they have a new unreleased album ready to be released. The British singer -songwriter red, however, will not bring out this last work before “at least a year and a half”, to give more breath to what will arrive in the shops – and on the streaming platforms – in a few days. The album will be titled “Rewind” and after “Play” represents the second chapter of a quadrilogy in which each disc will have a multimedia command as its title (to complete the saga they will think, further on, “Fast-Forward” and “Stop”).
Interviewed by Sun, Sheeran said:
I made “Play” and “Rewind” at the same time. We finished “play” before the other because it seemed to me the most exciting record. In the last two months I have also finished “Rewind”, which is ready to be published. I think it will come out within the next 18 months.
The pop star called “play” and “rewind” as two “twin albums”:
They are very similar to two twin albums. But one was more inspired by Indian culture and the other to nostalgia. So they took different directions.
The allusion to India has to do with the sounds of “Azizam”, the single that in fact anticipated the exit of “play”, with that guitar riff that winks a little eye on the Irish musical tradition, of which he is heir, and a little to Middle Eastern music. “Azizam”, for those who were asking him, is a word in Persian who means “my dear”. Ed Sheeran has chosen to name the single that marks his return to the scenes two years after the album “Autumn Variations” to pay homage to the producer with whom he worked on the song, Ilya Salminanzadeh, among the most popular Hitmakers of the Pop with stars and stripes, already at the side of Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and a thousand others.
