Duran Duran reveal the secret to lasting in the discography

In two years, in 2028, they will cross the finish line of their fifty-year career. It was 1978 when John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and the original singer Stephen Duffy, school friends and glam rock enthusiast, founded what would later become Duran Duran in Birmingham. After a trial period, Roger Taylor and Simon Le Bon joined in, the latter arriving in 1980 to officially kick off the Duran Duran epic. The debut came in 1981 with the eponymous debut album, the first of a dazzling series of successes. Now, as the fiftieth anniversary of the group’s birth approaches, Simon Le Bon and his associates reveal what was – at least for them – the secret to lasting in the discography.

In an interview with ITV News, the frontman of the “Rio” band said:

We love each other, we like working together. We also rely on each other for musical ideas. We divide all earnings equally; it doesn’t matter if you write something or not, you get an equal share of the royalties.

Then, the singer added:

This way, everyone is happy and only the best material ends up on the album. It means there are no hard feelings for economic reasons. I don’t know how many other bands do that.

The statements come ahead of the highly anticipated headlining concert at BST Hyde Park 2026 in London, scheduled for Sunday 5 July. Two days later, on July 7, Duran Duran will be in concert at the Verona Arena for the first of three shows scheduled this summer in our country. On July 9th they will be at the Royal Palace of Caserta, on the 11th at Villa Manin in Codroipo, Udine. The group’s latest album, “Danse macabre”, was released in 2023.
