Drake dominates the Billboard 200 with his three new albums
Drake once again enters the history of American music. The Canadian rapper has in fact become the first artist to simultaneously occupy the top three positions of the Billboard 200 since the chart has been published regularly, i.e. since 1956. The result comes after the simultaneous release of three albums, “Iceman”, “Habibti” and “Maid of Honour” (here is our review), published last May 15th. The three albums debuted directly at the top of the charts, giving Drake an unprecedented record.
However, there is a precedent that remains incomplete. In 2009, after Michael Jackson’s death, his albums should have occupied the top three positions on the Billboard 200, but a rule in force at the time prevented records released more than 18 months ago from returning to the main chart. For this reason the record was not officially recognized. It is no coincidence that Drake also paid homage to Jackson visually, citing the singer’s famous glove on the cover of “Iceman”. The triple release also represents Drake’s first solo project since “For All the Dogs”, released in 2023. In the meantime, the artist had released the collaborative album “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” together with PartyNextDoor. The new albums also arrive after the long media and musical clash with Kendrick Lamara rivalry that has become central to American pop culture in recent months and referenced several times by Drake in new songs.
