Dire Straits: the reprint with live of “Brothers in Arms”

On May 16, 2025, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its original release, the album will be republished “Brothers in Arms” of the Say Straitsone of the best -selling records in the history of music.

This special edition, entitled “Brothers in Arms (40th Anniversary Edition)“, It will be available in single vinyl format and in two deluxe editions: a 5 LP box and a 3 cd box.

The fifth studio album of the Knopfler band was, in 1985 one of the first albums released on Compact Disc with the “classification”, at the time used “DDD” or the use of digital applied to the three disk production phases: registration, mixing and mastering.

The Dire Straits, trained in 1977, quickly gained popularity thanks to their rock with deep roots and sophisticated texts, led by Mark Knopflerknown for its guitar virtuosity. The band has released six studio albums, including the fulminating debut “Dire Straits” (1978), “Communiqué” (1979), “Making Movies” (1980), “Love Over Gold” (1982), “Brothers in Arms” (1985) and “On Every Street” (1991), playing for millions of fans around the world during their tour.

“Brothers in Arms”, the band’s fifth album, was produced by Neil Dorfsman and Mark Knopfler and recorded between November 1984 and March 1985 at the Air Studios of George Martin in Montserrat and at the Power Station in New York.

This album contains iconic songs such as “Money for Nothing”, “Walk of Life”, “Brothers in Arms”, “So Far Away” and “Your Latest Trick”, and is one of the best -selling discs ever, exceeding 30 million copies and certified 14 times platinum in the United States.

He received important awards, including Grammy and Brit Award, and in 2018 the Dire Straits were included in the Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame.

The formation of the band during the recordings of “Brothers in Arms” included Mark Knopfler (guitar and voice), John Illsley (bass and voice), Alan Clark (keyboards), Guy Fletcher (keyboards and choirs) and Omar Hakim/Terry Williams (drums).

The vinyl edition of the album has been the first republication since 1985 and reproduces the original, with some traces published to adapt to the vinyl format.

The deluxe editions, both the 5 LP and the 3 CD editions, see the traces of the album in their entirety and include an unpublished concert recorded at the Municipal Auditorium of San Antonio during the “Live in 85 Tour”.

This tour has seen the participation of over two and a half million people, touching 117 cities with a total of 248 shows, including the famous Live Aid in London.

The packs of the Deluxe editions are enriched by a booklet with new cover notes written by Paul Sexton, the result of recent interviews with Mark Knopfler, John Illsley and Guy Fletcher, and also include exclusive Art Cards.
