Depeche Mode, a new book coming out for Arcana: photo gallery
To complete the trilogy dedicated to Depeche Mode, opened in 2015 by “Depeche Mode: MONUMENT” (Arcana) and continued in 2019 with “Beyond the Berlin Wall. With Depeche Mode in East Germany in search of the Post-Punk and New Wave” (goodfellas), Dennis Burmeister and Sascha Lange present a new volume full of unpublished images, collectible materials and exclusive interviews with the musicians’ friends.
“Depeche Mode: LIVE”, released by Arcana, traces the history of each tour of the band from the year of its debut, 1980, until 2024.
Each of the twenty-three chapters, of which sixteen are dedicated to individual tours, is accompanied by photos made available by fans and never published before. The other seven chapters instead consist of interviews with musicians, promoters and people close to Depeche Mode. There are also reproductions of posters, newspaper articles, posters, record covers and hundreds of other materials that help transport the reader into a one-of-a-kind visual experience.
Burmeister is a DJ and event organizer. His collection of Depeche Mode records and materials is among the largest in circulation, so much so that it could be enough to fill a museum. Lange, a musician, author and historian specializing in twentieth-century youth subcultures, is also an academic consultant for museums, media outlets and theaters.
