Dear Wow: "Sometimes you feel a cosplayer"

Dear Wow: “Sometimes you feel a cosplayer”

As a child, travel by car always had a soundtrack. Claudio Baglioni, Gianna Nannini, Mina and Jovanotti with mom, always and only De André with dad. Crescendo also approached other genres – Superorganism, Billie Eilish, Rosalìa, Charli Xcx, to mention some of his favorite artists – and curiosity for always new music, a source of stimulus and inspiration, remained constant. Today dear Wow, artist born in 1999, Carolina Spreeti’s art name, made his musical background and sounds in the first EP, “Half dead”.

Half dead

“I chose the title of the EP when we closed the last track and I understood that it was supposed to be the starting point -says Carolina -. What I’m talking about in “half dead” is the exact moment in which my life has changed due to the end of a long relationship. A moment in which I had to start again from scratch, I started the dear Wow project and I met all the people with whom I still collaborate – among which I would like to mention See Maw, producer, and Dado Freed, artistic director together with Gimmy – developing my idea of music “. Half dead, so Carolina felt at that moment. “It is my habit to see the positive side in things and in being half a dead I see the most beautiful part, the Wow part of dear that has remained Vivae who wants to prove it. I wanted a word that showed a dichotomy and that expressed shared sentiment by many guys from my generation: to feel on the one hand full of expectations and dreams and on the other crushed with future prospects “.

Music as therapy

But also from problems that there is still talk of too little, such as that of anorexia and mental disorders. “In “big eyes” I speak of when I was 15 and I had to face anorexiaeven if throughout my life I have fought and still fight with several ailments such as anxiety, to which I dedicated another song. Eating disorders have marked my adolescence and I chose to talk about it to thank all the people who at that time smiled at me and gave me hope. During the hospitalization I could not listen to music and consequently I reconnect the saddest moments of my life to its absence, while the most beautiful ones have always had their soundtrack. My mother told me that she understood when I was happy because I felt like singing from the courtyard“.

Be authentic

With music – already starting from the individual “Your cat”, “Loser”, “What you do” and “Dark Room” – Dear Wow has built a Technicolor world that the listener can explore through the six tracks of the EP in which electropop and dance sounds are mixed through the six tracks. “Everything was born with my producer, who brought this soul and these sounds – with which I immediately found myself at ease – in my project. It seems difficult for me to categorize music, mine has been called “cyber pop” and I liked it “. The disc was opened by the single” Cosplay Love “, a pop banger that talks about how sometimes we feel a” cosplayer “ of yourself and how to create a protective shield to face reality. “I think this song will lead us to question us about what authenticity is. For me dear Wow corresponds to one hundred percent in Carolina and it could not be otherwise, when I don’t happen I feel in a cage. I consider dear Wow the best part of dear, the one I like to show. That, in fact, authentic “.

The feat with Sethu

For the only feat of the EP, “You would never say it,” Carolina chose the friend of a life Sethu. “We have known each other for many years and we are friends. The collaboration was born some time ago and gave birth to one of my favorite pieces. I am happy that it is the only featuring of the EP Because for me he is a very important person, one of the few authentic artists I respect professionally and as a person. I think he brought freshness to this project, as in everything he does“. The publication of the first EP is certainly not a goal, on the contrary. Carolina is ready to roll up the sleeves and prepare for the live that awaits it this summer and of which he will soon announce the dates.
