“Here’s The Thing”the third single from “Romance”, the long-awaited new project out on August 23rdwas written a few days before the DC Fountains entered the studio to record the album. It begins with the mechanical and mutating sounds of the guitar, a sound that Placebo which then opens up to a more melodic part that seems to wink at the Weezer. “It’s an anxious tune that twists and turns to what it wants, back and forth between pain and numbness,” says Grian Chatten, lead singer of the rock band. It’s a song with an urgency, meant to convey emotional instincts. The accompanying cinematic music video directed by acclaimed director Luna Carmoon is a gem. and perfectly frames the song’s paranoia and its desire for freedom. Evoking the essence of horror films such as Joel Schumacher’s “The Lost Boys” and Dario Argento’s “Phenomena”the video for “Here’s The Thing” immerses us in a traditional Irish dance competition, where chaos triumphs.

In April, Fontaines DC, who will be at the Alcatraz in Milan on November 4th for a sold out date and who we recently saw at the La Prima Estate festival, released the first resounding track from their new album, “Starburst”taking the world’s spotlight upon himself once again. The song was accompanied by the much talked about music video by Aube-Perrie in which the band appears to be immersed in a visually post-apocalyptic universe.. The next single? “Favourite”. The video for the latter, self-directed by the group themselves, documents a recent trip to Madrid, a city with which Fontaines DC has several personal ties: it’s where guitarist Carlos O’Connell was born and raised and it’s the city the band used as a base for its first tour.. Shows childhood footage of the five band members. “Romance” is the band’s first album with producer James Ford and is billed as their most sonically “adventurous” chapter. The new project from the Dublin-based band, now based in London, follows on the heels of their acclaimed 2022 album, “Skinty Fia”, which entered the UK and Irish charts at number one and saw the group receive a number of accoladesincluding “International Group of the Year” at the 2023 BRIT Awards.

“Romance” aims to be Fontaines DC’s most ambitious album yet and its eleven tracks collect new ideas developed between the band members: Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass) and Tom Coll (drums). These ideas crystallized during the tour of the United States and Mexico with Arctic Monkeys, where the five shared music and found a connection.real and not, with artists who have become sources of inspiration: the attitude and aesthetics of names like Shygirl and Sega Bodega, the brazen sonic palette of hip hop and heavy metal, Mos Def, A$AP Ferg, OutKast and Kornare some of the references mentioned by the group in the project’s presentation note. Fontaines DC had some free time to get more precise ideas about what their future music could be like: O’Connell went to La Mancha in Spain and became a father, Chatten spent time in Los Angeles and Deegan in Paris. They have put down deeper roots in London. Each member has pushed their boundaries, experimenting with riffs, chord progressions and distant lyrical references, but without the intention of recording an album right away. Needless to say: “Romance” is highly anticipated.
