Davide Matrisciano, a trilogy crowded with guests
It is a courageous and also a little reckless project, that of Davide Matrisciano. We’ll talk about it in a few lines, in the meantime here is a biography of the musician. Born in Naples in 1985, he released his first album, “Traffico di pulsazioni”, completely instrumental, in 2012. He made his debut as a singer-songwriter in 2014, with “Il Profumo dei Fiori Secchi”; from 2016 is “Mummie incoscienti”, from 2019 “Buona vision”.
Matrisciano’s new project, “Libidal” (an acronym that includes the initials of the names of the artist and his parents), had a gestation period of about six years (starting from the composition of the songs up to the final conclusion), and it was initially thought of as a trilogy to be released in three separate volumes; the subsequent and definitive choice to release the three albums all together (“Anti-pain songs”, “Anti-depressant songs”, “Anti-histaminic songs”) was then derived from the author’s desire to have free rein for new initiatives. The three albums were released by La Cellula/Max Sound – Audioglobe.
The musical influences are deliberately and strictly 80s, and mainly touch on synth pop and new wave genres. Matrisciano’s choice of sounds during the arrangement phase was obsessive, in order to get as close as possible to the sound world of those years.
The trilogy was mixed and mastered by Max Carola, a well-known sound engineer with various illustrious collaborations under his belt, such as Zucchero, Franco Battiato, Aerosmith, Roxette, Simple Minds, etc.).
The lead single was “29 July”, featuring Johnson Righeira. The song is strictly autobiographical, starting from the title (in fact it is the day and month of the artist’s birth), whose video clip is directed by Alfonso Alfieri.
What is impressive is the very long list of guests who contributed to the creation of the trilogy, which we report below.
