David Gilmour surprisingly plays Pink Floyd in a small pub
Imagine you’re drinking a beer in a small pub in Brighton during a set by Romany Gilmour, daughter of David Gilmour, and suddenly the legendary guitarist appears on stage as a surprise. That’s what happened last night, September 9, at the Neptune Inn in Hove.
Romany was performing a short set at the venue’s regular Monday night open mic night, covering Leonard Cohen’s “If It Be Your Will” and Joanna Newsom’s “This Side Of Blu,” along with her own composition, provisionally titled “Lily of the Roses.” At the end of her set, the young musician looked out into the audience and said, “Oh my God, you’re here. And you brought your guitar.” David Gilmour then pushed his way through the crowd to join his daughter on the venue’s small stage. “You’re going to steal my thunder? That’s fine, great,” Romany joked.
Father and daughter played together one of Pink Floyd’s most famous songs, the title track of the historic British band’s 1975 album, “Wish you were here”. A video of the moment was shared on social media by the guitarist himself. “Had a lot of fun sneaking into Romany Gilmour’s show at the Neptune in Hove after finishing rehearsals for the tour…”, reads the caption of the clip.
Romany Gilmour stars with her father in the cover of “Between Two Points”, a 1999 song by the English duo The Montgolfier Brothers, included in the guitarist’s new album “Luck and strange” (here is our review). David Gilmour is currently busy rehearsing for the upcoming tour in support of the album, which will start in Rome at the end of September and then stop in London, Los Angeles and New York. As reported by “Loudersound”, the audience at the Neptune Inn also included Gilmour’s bandmates, bassist Guy Pratt and guitarist Ben Worsley, as well as Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane and Romany’s brother Gabriel, who also appears on “Luck and strange”.
