Dave Rowntree failed to enter Parliament
The drummer of the Blur Dave Rowntree failed to gain election to the UK Parliament. Rowntree stood for election as a Labour Party representative in the constituency of Mid Sussex, a long-standing Conservative stronghold. The seat went to the Liberal Democrats, who ousted the Conservative Party for the first time since the constituency was created in 1974.
Dave Rowntree got about 17% of the vote compared to 39% Alison Elizabeth Bennettfirst place in that constituency. In Great Britain, Labour won the elections, the first since 2010, and their leader, Keir Starmerwill be the new prime minister.
The passion for active politics of Dave Rowntree It started a while ago. After a couple of failures, the Blur member won his first local elections in 2017, earning a seat on Norwich County Council. He resigned in 2021, following the pandemic. After announcing his run for parliament said: “Residents have the best chance in a generation to make their vote count and return a Labour MP to parliament. The Tories have run out of ideas and the Lib Dems have run out of steam. I will be standing for parliament to provide the energy and vision the area so desperately needs.”
