Why Grohl never worked with Novoselic again after Nirvana

Dave Grohl plays AC/DC with Taylor Hawkins’ son Shane

Surprisingly, and informally anticipating the following evening with his Foo Fighters protagonists of the day on May 23rd, Dave Grohl took to the stage at BottleRock during the set last May 22nd by Chevy Metal, the cover band founded by the late Taylor Hawkins.

The group, born years ago as a parallel and fun project of the Foo Fighters drummer, continues to live even after Hawkins’ death in 2022, thanks above all to his son Shane Hawkins, who took his place behind the drums alongside bassist Wiley Hodgden and guitarist Brent Woods.

The Chevy Metal concert quickly transformed into an unabashedly classic rock celebration, with a setlist built between covers of the Rolling Stones, Rush, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Police, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, Joe Walsh and Van Halen. As reported by the “San Francisco Chronicle”, Grohl’s arrival on stage gave the set the atmosphere of an impromptu party between friends and musicians who grew up with those songs, rather than that of a festival performance built to amaze. A loose, loud and spontaneous moment that inevitably ignited the anticipation for the Foo Fighters’ headlining performance scheduled for the following evening. Together with Dave, Chevy Metal played some covers including AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock”:

The Foo Fighters, who released the new album “Your favorite toy” last April 24th (here is our review) are currently engaged in their “Take Cover Tour 2026” which will also bring them back to Italy on July 5th 2026 for a date at the Ippodromo Snai La Maura in Milan, as headliners of the I-Days. The event will also see Idles and Fat Dog on stage.
