Dave Grohl: a dig at Taylor Swift:
Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters he called into question Taylor Swift during a recent concert (Read review here).
While performing at London Stadium on Saturday (June 22), Grohl pointed out that Swift was holding her concert at Wembley. After a chorus of boos from fans, Grohl told the audience, “I’m telling you, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift. So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.'”
Grohl added jokingly: “We’ve had more than one era, and more than a few fucking mistakes. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You like raw rock ‘n’ roll music and live, right? You came to the fucking right place.”
Taylor Swift then seemingly responded to Grohl’s comments. After receiving a standing ovation at Wembley on Sunday night (June 23), Swift complimented her band, quipping, “Every single member of my band, every single member of our crew, my band that’s playing from I live for you for 3 and a half hours tonight, they deserve it so much. And the same goes for all my fellow artists. And you have shown us so generously that we will never forget it.”
Grohl’s digs at Swift are somewhat surprising, given that the two have gotten along well in the past. In 2018, Grohl recalled the time Swift “saved” him at a party hosted by Paul McCartney. According to the guitarist, McCartney played a song on the piano, after which “everyone turned to me and said: ‘Okay Dave, he plays a song'”.
“I don’t know how to play the piano and at that point I was struggling a bit,” he continued. “All the guitars are left-handed and I was like, ‘Oh my God, what do I do? What do I do?’ and at that point Taylor Swift stood up and said, “I’m going to make a song.” So she saved my ass.”
While it’s not entirely clear why Grohl lashed out at Swift, several social media posts speculate that it was a response to Grohl’s daughter being cyber-bullied earlier this year by of droves of Swift fans. After the 17-year-old wrote that the singer flew everywhere on her private jet, Violet reportedly received death threats and Swift did not speak out against the actions of her fans.
Since footage of Grohl’s dig at Swift made the rounds on social media, the former Nirvana drummer has drawn the ire of Swift fans (aka Swifties), while others have come to the rocker’s defense.
