Daryl Hall & John Oates, a finished story
Decades after the period of maximum splendor in the 1980s, with songs that remained in history such as “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” and “Manaater”, the relationships Interior to the duo Daryl Hall & John Oates They seem to have broken irreparablely. For some time the two have been in breaking for a problem relating to the management of the catalog.
In a new interview, Daryl Hall revealed his feelings towards his former musical partner, John Oates. In 2023, Hall filed a cause against his former colleague when Oates attempted to sell his half of the couple’s common publishing company, the Oats Enterprises. Apparently, this legal dispute was the beginning for the break between Hall and Oates, which in 2020 were working on a new material.
Now, Hall has defined the attempt to sell the Wholes Enterprises, an act considered by John Oates “the definitive betrayal of the partnership”.
Previously, both members of the duo had declared that he was over, with Oates with Oas who said he had “turned the page” in an interview with Rolling Stone. According to Hall, there seems to be no way to reconcile the relationship. “That ship went at the bottom of the ocean,” he told the Times, giving up any possibility of smoothing out their differences.
“I had many surprises in my life, disappointments, betrayals, so I am used to it,” continued the singer -songwriter who also said in the interview: “Over the years I have dealt with rather shady characters. That’s where the problems begin”. It therefore seems that his path within the musical industry has been not very harmonious, to use an understatement.
As in any separation of a band, it is inevitable that issues relating to credits and copyrights arise. However, Hall hastened to make things clear about Hall and Oates’ discography. “The songs with his main voice are the ones he wrote, while all the others, who are about 90%, are the ones I wrote,” he said. The singer -songwriter also added that he feels little appreciated for his efforts inside the duo.
Nonetheless, the separation between the two has not affected Hall productivity that a tour in the United Kingdom will start in the spring, where he will perform for the first time at the Royal Albert Hall.
