Cure: Robert Smith is thinking of releasing a Christmas song

On the occasion of a special track by track of the Cure’s latest album, “Songs of a lost world” (here the track by track and here the review), during a chat with John Kennedy on Radio wrote a “catchy pop song” to which he might add a Christmas twist to release as a holiday single.

In recounting his band’s latest work of unreleased songs, the first since “4:13 Dream” (read the review here) in 2008, Smith revealed how he found inspiration for the various tracks on the album and, in addition to talking about his complex relationship with mortality, recalled the encouragement he received from his brother at the beginning of his career. During the interview, the Cure frontman also highlighted how, more than anything, he wants to provoke an “emotional reaction” in his listeners, and confirmed that he is already focused on new material. In this regard, Smith described one currently unreleased track in particular as a “really catchy” pop song that could work as a future Christmas release. “I try to just get an emotional response from what I write. Unless you think, ‘This is a catchy idea,’ but those days are kind of gone,” the artist said. Without revealing further details of the possible unreleased single, such as a possible release date, hadded:

“But I wrote a really catchy pop song! I’m struggling to figure out how to release it. Being in the city all day, how many times have I heard ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham!. I think I should just write some Christmas words on it and release it!”

Robert Smith had already revealed that he was working on new music during an interview with Absolute Radio’s Danielle Perry, sharing information on two more potential Cure albums, one of which was presented as a sort of “companion piece” to “Songs of a lost world”. The British band’s frontman also stated that fans won’t have to wait long for a new album.

In the meantime, the Cure have released today, December 13th, the album with the live recording of the new album “Songs of a lost world” (here the track by track and here the review) performed at the Troxy in London last November 1st (here our story from the Troxy).
