Concerts 2026: three dates in Italy for David Byrne
After the international success of American Utopia, from album and tour to a Broadway show awarded with a Grammy and then a film directed by Spike Lee, David Byrne announces his return to Italy in 2026 with the new project “Who Is The Sky?”.
The tour will present his songs live for the first time next albumthe result of a period of intense artistic research, between personal exploration, new creative collaborations and the desire to tell the complexity of humanity through music and irony.
The Italian appointments are scheduled for Tuesday June 23 in BariLocus Festival; Thursday June 25th at Lucca Summer Festival and Friday June 26th at the Marostica Summer Festival. The new album “Who Is The Sky?” it arrives after a period in which Byrne temporarily put his writing on hold to devote himself to other creative forms: cooking, drawing, scattered notes of lyrics and melodies. From this “warehouse of ideas” was born a cycle of new songs developed together with the producer Kid Harpoon (Tom Hull), a key figure in contemporary pop music who contributed to forming the sound dimension of the project.
The album follows the optimistic and humanist themes of American Utopia, delving into Byrne’s exploration of connection, community and personal transformation. With his unique narrative style, the artist constructs mini-stories full of humor and reflection, such as “My Apartment Is My Friend”, “She Explains Things to Me” or “I Met the Buddha at a Downtown Party”, in which everyday observations are intertwined with philosophical ideas.
Exceptional guest the album includes Hayley Williams (Paramore), St. Vincent and Tom Skinner (The Smile), while on the rhythm side historical Byrne collaborators such as the Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco return.
