Coldplay write a song for Luton Town FC.

THE Coldplay they concluded their headlining concert at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend with a song they wrote in honor of the Luton Town FCby title “Orange“, with the colors of the “home” club given that the festival took place in Luton.

Before the song, performed by Chris Martin alone on keyboards, the frontman pointed out that on the occasion of the concert the local press had asked the band to change the lyrics of “Yellow” to “Orange”. Coldplay performed their hit “Yellow” with the original text but in the end Martin presented this new song expressly written for the occasion and dedicated to the team from the city that was hosting them.

The lyrics of the song say:

We didn't win all our games, we didn't win the cup / But when you get knocked down at Luton, you always get back up!” and “I was born in love with Luton, and I always will be.

In some passages the song recalls Cohen's “Hallelujah”. Obviously the enthusiasm of the fans was great and the team on their profile X thanked the artist by writing: “Coldplay just said they love us.”

This wasn't the only surprise of the evening. In fact, Coldplay brought Sabrina Carpenter back to the stage, who had performed at the festival before the band. Together they sang “Magic“. “I love Coldplay. What is this? Cheers for Coldplay – what the hell?!” So said the American singer and actress.

Coldplay will be back in June headliner, for the fifth time – absolute record, a Glastonbury. They will perform at the Pyramid Stage alongside SZA and Dua Lipa.

Furthermore, between June and July 2024 the band is expected to four concerts at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Their performance at the festival will come before their album due next year, which, as announced in 2021, is expected to be their last as Martin plans to stop writing music as a band by 2025 (Read here).

“Well, I know I can tell you: Our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we'll just tour,” Martin said during an interview with Jo Wiley. “Maybe we'll do some collaborative stuff, but the Coldplay catalogue, so to speak, will end then.”
