Celine Dion vs. Trump
After returning to the scene at the opening ceremonies of the 33rd edition of the Olympics, Celine Dion is making herself heard publicly again.
The Canadian singer had moved people by singing Edith Piaf and her “Hymne à l’amour” under the Eiffel Tower. This time, however, she is decidedly angry: at a rally in Montana, US presidential candidate Donald Trump used a video of Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On”, her famous song recorded for the soundtrack of “Titanic” in 1997.
The Canadian musician, who in recent years has been suffering from ‘rigid person syndrome’, did not take it well, as often happens when politicians – especially those of the American right – make unauthorized use of the music and image of singers who are far from their ideas.
Dion and her team posted a message on social media that ends tersely with, “Really THAT song?”
Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance and image of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump/J.D. Vance campaign rally in Montana.
This use is in no way authorized: Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar uses.
…And really, THAT song?
