David Bowie: There's Only One Record In His Career He Regrets

Carlo Conti: “I said no to David Bowie in Sanremo”

The last episode of “Pezzi”, the podcast hosted by Andrea Laffranchi, Luca Dondoni and Paolo Giordano (journalists of Corriere della Sera, La Stampa and Il Giornale respectively) featured Carlo Contihost and artistic director who replaces Amadeus in the 2025 edition of the Sanremo Festival.

During the chat the Tuscan showman revealed that he had said no to the participation of David Bowie during the 2015 edition (10 to 14 February 2015), in which he already had, for the first time, the position he holds for 2025.

This is how Carlo Conti recalled the episode that happened 10 years ago.

We didn’t come David Bowie at the Ariston and it would have been his last television guest. Regretful? A lot of. It was all going very well – with ratings growing, there was the possibility of having the last night, on Saturday, David Bowiebut it had a considerable cost and with Claudio Fasulo (RAI manager) and director Leone we asked ourselves ‘what do we do?’ and I said ‘well, it’s going so well’, in the end we didn’t let him come and it would be his last TV guest. He just had to do “Heroes” and the new piece – but certainly “Heroes” – the host underlined – was worth much more than that amount.

David Bowie then passed away on January 10, 2016.
