May Pang: "John Lennon Didn't See Himself as a Big Superstar"

Cardinal Tagle, favored to become Pope, sings “Imagine”

In these hours a video of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is making the tour of the social media, among the favorites to become a new Pope, who sings John Lennon’s “Imagine”. It is a clip dating back to 2019. The video began to circulate on social media in these hours not only because Luis Antonio Tagle is considered one of the most accredited candidates for the succession of Pope Francis, but also because the performance on the notes of John Lennon’s pacifist’s Nano, who imagined an alternative world, free from the divisions, without any war to fight, no home to defend and to die, was exploited by a site of the Canadian Catholic Right, LifeSentiws, to attack the Cardinal.

“Shocking: Cardinal Tagle sings ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon. A betrayal of Catholic teaching?”, He wrote the site in a tweet, defining “Imagine” as “an atheist hymn that refuses religion, paradise and royalty of Christ”, with a “text that openly contradicts Catholic doctrine”. The most attentive, however, pointed out how Tagle actually sang a cut version of the song, avoiding to interpret the verses containing references to religion.

Here, however, the video:
