Bruce Springsteen guest at the “Defend Minnesota” concert

Bruce Springsteen was a surprise guest at an anti-ICE concert in Minneapolis headlined by Tom Morello and Rise Against on Friday afternoon. “The Boss” performed three songs, including his new protest piece “Streets of Minneapolis”

The show was billed as “A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota!” (A concert of solidarity and resistance to defend Minnesota!), starring Morello and Rise Against and with Al Di Meola and Ike Reilly on the bill. The poster teased a “very special guest,” and that guest turned out to be Springsteen.

Springsteen was introduced by Morello one hour and fifty minutes into the concert, as you can see in the video below, shot by a spectator.

He began with the aforementioned “Streets of Minneapolis,” then played “The Ghost of Tom Joad” with Morello — who also took part in the recording of the song that appeared on Springsteen’s 2014 album “High Hopes” — and the concert closed with Springsteen and Morello leading the entire ensemble in a version of John Lennon’s “Power to the People.”

100% of the proceeds from the concert went to the families of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, both killed by agents of ICE, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the US federal agency responsible for controlling customs and immigration security, which in recent weeks has ended up at the center of controversy among US and world public opinion following the operations conducted in Minneapolis.
