Bjork: mysterious mash-ups on X and You Tube
In the last few days Bjork shared a series of mash-ups featuring songs from SZA made by fans. After this series of bootlegs were published on X, most people speculated that the Icelandic singer’s profile had been hacked. Others thought that a collaboration with SZA was on the way.
Bootlegs also re-proposed on YouTube, included “Pagan Poetry” by Björk crossed with “Drew Barrymore” by SZA, “All is Full of Love” mixed with “Saturn” And “Hunter” united with “Seek & Destroy“, were posted on Björk’s feed out of context, and were soon reposted by SZA with the caption “IM SORRY WHAATT? I BEG UR FUCKING PARDON !???”.
The mysteriously appearing mash-ups were all created by various users over the past year, and one of them even included a copyright disclaimer declaring the video to be fair use. Björk, however, does not appear to have filed any kind of complaint over the incident.
The fans’ initial reactions were one of surprise, with many interpreting the posts as the work of hackers, but when it emerged that they had also been shared on the singer’s official Facebook page, several hypotheses arose online.
One X user posted, “Bjzza is coming,” while another pointed out that SZA has long been a fan of Björk, having already sampled “Hidden Place” in “Forgiveless” (2022). Another fan added that Björk had already posted a fan-made mash-up with Rosaliabefore releasing a collaboration with her a couple of months later.
Such out-of-context posts are not uncommon, however, given Björk’s social media presence, which includes everything from environmental advocacy to promoting her homemade Christmas decorations.
It remains a mystery, however, whether the singer was simply having fun with some fan-made remixes or whether she was hinting at something bigger.
“Ditch”, the latest album by 58-year-old Björk Guðmundsdóttir, dates back to 2022.
