Billy Preston, a memory of the great keyboardist (1 / 11)
Billy Preston is one of those musical phenomena who emerge from childhood. Already at the age of ten he accompanied Mahalia Jackson on the piano. At eleven he duetted with Nat King Cole. At sixteen he toured as an organist with Little Richard. In 1970 he took part in the recordings of the Beatles’ last album, “Let it Be”.
His bouquet of collaborations includes leading names such as Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Miles Davis, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Sly Stone, Quincy Jones, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Billy died on June 6, 2006 at the age of 59 due to chronic hypertension, to which was added, to further complicate the situation, a kidney complication. On the anniversary of his death we remember him with a small part of what he gave to music.
