Billy Joel returns to play live after health problems
After a long period away from the stage due to serious health problems announced in recent months, Billy Joel has returned to performing in public. For his first performance since being diagnosed with a rare brain disorder, the New York musician decided to surprise a tribute band and the audience.
After canceling a series of tour dates in May last year following his diagnosis with a condition affecting hearing, balance and vision called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), Billy Joel made his unexpected return last Friday 2 January. In a completely surprise moment, the artist joined his tribute band, the Turnstiles, in Wellington, Florida, during a concert celebrating the city’s 30th anniversary. Joel’s appearance surprised the band as much as the audience, and the musician then walked to the center of the stage to perform “We Didn’t Start The Fire” and “Big Shot”.
“I wasn’t going to work tonight!” Billy Joel said to the crowd.
