Billy Joel: After Over 100 Concerts, He Ends Residency in New York
The relationship between Billy Joel and the prestigious Madison Square Garden is decades old. “Piano Man” held his first concert in the most famous New York arena in the world on December 14, 1978, while on January 27, 2014 he announced a concert a month for an indefinite period.
Now that time has come and the 75-year-old singer from New York, after 104 concerts of the residency in that prestigious venue, has decided to stop.
William Martin Joelknown as Billy on July 25th at his one hundred and fourth performance (all sold out with an official capacity of 19,500 seats) greeted the audience by calling on stage his two daughters Della and Remy, respectively 8 and 6 years old, with whom he performed ‘My Life’ on the piano, a great success from 1978 signed by the American singer-songwriter. Axl Rose also went on stage with whom he performed three songs.
The artist had promised to continue the show as long as there was demand. “The demand never stopped,” his agent said. So a final date was chosen, which corresponds to the 150th concert of his career at that location.
On the occasion of the last date, among the audience as guests of honor were Jimmy Fallon, Bill Clinton, Andrew Cuomo.
According to Nbc News, nearly 2 million tickets were sold during his 10-year residency. His concerts were attended by fans from every state in the United States and over 120 countries around the world.
