Anna Carol: “You have to take some time”
“I discovered music as a child through dance and theater, then singing and music arrived. At 18 I was very passionate about jazz, which made me discover my vocality and that music could be a very powerful form of expression “. From jazz he landed in soul and R&B music, and then arrives at pop and songwriting. “I also lived abroad between Cologne, Rotterdam and London and meeting the international scene was decisive in the search for my identity, also fueled by the international indie and the English scene of the past and contemporary”.
He took the time, Anna Carolto build his artistic path. And this is precisely this take timein a historical moment in which the rule applies completely and immediately, one of the main themes of his new album, “Beginners”, coming out on March 14th for Inri Records/Metatron. “I think this thing to take the weather is normalized- explains the artist of Bolzano- now it seems that if it does not take place immediately there is something wrong. Perhaps we are giving ourselves too little time to work on things, whether it’s work, love or relationships in general “.
“In this new album, which is very important for me – he adds – I wanted to close a eye compared to today’s bulimia to give him the time he deserved, even allowing me to go back on some aspects to modify them. I granted it to me and I had people next to people who were compassionate compared to this need, “says Anna referring to Federico Dragogna, who produced the album, Ivan Antonio Rossi, who followed the recordings, and Selton, with whom he worked in the studio recalling the production logic of the 70s, in which musicians play together to create a more alive and far from immediate consumption. “I think the humanity put on the disc is perceived and magical.” And in addition it seems to recall – and to contrast – another of the album topics, that of loneliness That more and more often we live glued to the screens of smartphones or PCs. “I would call it a masked solitude. We are experiencing a moment of great solitude, we believe we are extremely connected and instead we are disconnected both by ourselves and by others “.
Perhaps we are still “beginners” or, perhaps, we should go back to being. “The whole disc speaks of love and the various types of relationships that exist. The relationship that we have with ourselves is constantly evolving, because we continue to change, and fortunately. And even in relationships with others you have to place ourselves as beginners. Because each person is different and each meeting is always a novelty, even with ourselves ”.
“The condition of always being beginners fascinates me, I really like the idea of always proposing with this state of mind, because it means being ready to love opposite visions. And I realized that the word “beginners” contains “tears”, a coincidence that has struck me because this state can put us in front of moments of enormous pain. We go to attempts and you risk making mistakes. But the title also recalls a collection of tales by Carver, an author who explores the theme of relations a lot “.
Anna’s approach is an electrocardiogram of relationships in observing the world around her, which looks in a macro way to tell, through specific situations, something bigger. Who talks about her and everyone, but also of imagined stories in which to find himself.
In fact, his writing enters with light and sometimes ironic gaze in the complexity of the newspaper, transposing it into evocative images that guide those who listen to a delicate and profound dimension. Already from the debut album, “Kinetics”, released in 2022 and welcomed in the Italian songwriting and even more in the new album, anticipated by the individual “the opposite”, “different types of pain” and “boreal”.
And of time it will also be necessary to take it to listen to live “beginners” during the tour which will start with the opening of the concerts of Dente on April 5 in Florence, 6 in Rome, 10 in Turin, 11 in Bologna and 19 in Conversano (Bari) and then on 2 May in its Bolzano.
“There is a lot of work behind the release of an album, but after all, the peak of the work is that of the concert, in which I put so much energy. I can’t wait to bring him live and to live contact with the public ”.
