“Acoustic sessions” is released, the new Thin Lizzy album after 40 years

Next January 24th i Thin Lizzy will release a new album titled “Acoustic Sessions” which will benefit from archive contributions from the late frontman Phil Lynott and the former drummer Brian Downey.

The co-founder of the band Eric Bell reinvented the songs by adding acoustic guitar to the songs on the super deluxe 50th anniversary editions of the band’s self-titled debut Thin Lizzy from 1971, “Shades of a Blue Orphanage” of 1972 and “Vagabonds of the Western World” from 1973.

In a statement Bell stated that he used an approach not very different from the one with which i
Thin Lizzy
they had originally completed these songs. “I remember recording “Eire” from our debut album “Thin Lizzy” in 1971. I wrote the main guitar part acoustic first and then we built it up from there. I played 12-string acoustic throughout the song and I introduced the electric on top. This was useful recently in the Belfast studio where we recorded new guitar parts to allow us to create new acoustic Thin Lizzy versions of some of our favorite songs, recreating those original acoustic parts, adding the vocals that Philip had set that day and the original drum parts that Brian did in the original recording sessions.”

The guitarist
Eric Bell
left i
Thin Lizzy
after the release of

“Vagabonds of the Western World”
. After the first period with
Gary Moore
,
Scott Gorham
he succeeded Bell and subsequently led the reunited band following Lynott’s death in 1986 at the age of 36.

The producer
Richard Whittaker
provided the basic tracks for “Acoustic Sessions” once the recent Thin Lizzy remixes were completed. “After reviewing all the Decca recordings, I presented a list of ideas. However, in most cases, further development and material were needed. So the guys from the label turned to Eric, who was happy to get involved in the project and between us, I think we created something truly unique and special.”

“Acoustic Sessions”
also includes a bonus song titled
“Slow Blues GM”
in tribute to Moore, who died of a heart attack at the age of 58 in 2011. The most recent studio work by

Thin Lizzy
And
“Thunder and Lightning”
of 1983, although i
