A Portrait of Punk Artist Peaches at the Venice Film Festival
“Peaches Goes Bananas”, an intimate portrait of the Canadian punk artist Peacheswill be presented at the 81st Venice Film Festival.
After “Cassandro,” about the iconic Mexican transvestite wrestler nicknamed Exóticos, and the musician and radio playwright Felix Kubin, the documentary filmmaker Marie Losier returns to paint an intimate portrait of an artist in his next film. Titled “Peaches Goes Bananas,” it chronicles the career of punk singer Peaches.
According to the synopsis, the plot will follow the artist from Canada to Germany, where he traveled to try to “make a name for himself in the Berlin underground, combining sex, punk and sweet memories of the boom years of the early 80s.”
“Since 2006 I have been filming Peaches, the crazy queen of punk-electro and a feminist and queer icon. My images tell the story of a crucial moment in her career, between full consecration and the stubborn desire to reinvent herself”, explains the director in the comments reported by the Cineuropa website. “But behind the scenes there is a sometimes less glamorous reality, in which Peaches takes care of her sister who suffers from a serious degenerative disease. I never stop asking myself: where does she get this boundless energy from? This ability to break diktats and taboos? This film is a look behind the scenes of the creation and life of an explosive artist”.
After presenting “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye” at the Berlinale in 2011 and “Cassandro The Exótico!” (2018) at ACID, during the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Marie Losier will present her new documentary “Peaches Goes Bananas” in world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in a special screening as part of the Giornate degli Autori, a parallel section of the Festival.
