The fire of Prometheus

In the final stretch, just before that bailongo finale that was “The Sandstorm”, Marc Gili addressed the audience in Catalan to promise to return with a new album “ple de mala llet” (full of bad temper). And that is not trivial. The main composer and singer of Dorian He is fully aware that the tremor is already here. Dark times in which bad slime will be more necessary than ever; Where we will have to ensure not to take even a step back in the rights achieved; Where speaking in Catalan will once again become a declaration of principles: a political act in itself; And where we will have to defend that dual horizon with the weapons that provide a bass that sounds very fat, a catchy keyboard phrasing, a forceful drumbeat, and lyrics that move us strongly inside. That’s what it’s about Dorian and that was just what they offered us in its maximum expression, during a concert that sounded like a dream, and that was the dream closing of a long tour of two intense years.

And it was like this, fully aware of the importance of the appointment in that Apollo that has given us so many nights of glory, that they began their concert; with a poker from his repertoire that he chained at the beginning: “The friends I lost”, “The island”, “Artificial paradises” and “See you dawn”. Tremendous start that generated an intense climax of dedication on the part of the audience, which would barely descend throughout the almost two hours of gigs and the twenty songs they performed. An emotional shake-up that was supported by such effective songs from their repertoire as “El Tremor”, “Duele”, “Dual” or that “Vicios y Defectos” that grows exponentially live, thanks to the contribution, as vocalist and duo, of the band’s guitarist Lisandro Montes. Latent demonstration of the importance of all its members, and how well each one fits into their role. Without a doubt, one of the reasons that explains why Dorian has managed to remain at the top of the limelight for twenty-two years. Even overcoming the sentimental breakup of its hard core, without losing that halo of dark romanticism that permeates the essence of its songs.

At this point there is little more to add. The audience was dedicated, the band was in a state of grace, the room was sounding like candy, and the atmosphere was in ecstasy due to the strange beauty of those verses that were born from Marc’s pen and are a true declaration of principles. Bars full of a very special hyper sensitivity. The same one with which he is able to give us a heartbreaking ballad like “A motion slow”, in which it is difficult not to fall in love when singing in chorus: “And yet when we see each other, Everything fits together, we both know it, Nobody imagines what we have, Don’t let our dreams be stolen from our lives.” Can the importance of dreaming and the right to materialize what is dreamed be better expressed? Well, that is what it is about and that is what the proposal for Dorian. In the all-out defense of preventing anyone from establishing themselves with the right to steal from us the only thing we have left: the ideas woven from dreams. The same fire that Prometheus stole from Olympus to illuminate human beings.

The lights turn on and faces look happy and sweaty. The final dance section that involved linking “Dark Matter” – with a nod included to the Pegamoides – with “The Sand Storm” has made us, despite the age of some, jump like crazy. A gymnastics and dance exercise that can only indicate one thing: we had a great time. So we can only hope that in the future we will encounter Dorian elsewhere. We will be there.
