We review ‘The Price of the Net’, Aaron Sorkin’s new film

Yes in “The social network” (10), the screenwriter Aaron Sorkin left a loophole for doubt about the villainy of Mark Zuckerberg, in “The price of the network” Director Sorkin does not leave any space, as if he regrets having been able to insinuate in the film directed by David Fincher that Zuckerberg was not as bad as what was reported in the film seemed to indicate. If we refer to his new film, the creator of Facebook is, in the eyes of the filmmaker, as ambitious as he is despotic, as pragmatic as he is inhuman, as relentless as he is harmful.

“The price of the network” It is not a second part of “The social network”, although yes, a clear complement. The protagonist is no longer Zuckerberg, played by Jeremy Strong with his usual perverse hieraticism, but a couple of ugly ducklings in contemporary society: an investigative journalist stuck in the pre-digital era (Jeremy Allen White, somewhat imbued with the spirit of Buster Keaton in his existence in a world he does not understand) and an unpopular Facebook data analyst (a dynamic Mikey Madison in her first role after the Oscar for “Anora”). Thus, if Fincher’s film was, indirectly and through the figure of an obsessive, vengeful and ruthless being, a condemnation and a warning sign against social misfits, “The price of the network” It means the restitution of their honor through a couple of irresistible charm and undeniable chemistry in their dialectical confrontations that tries to denounce the current system to improve it.

Certainly, “The price of the network”enjoyable as a journalistic investigative film, does not surpass its brilliant predecessor in its electrifying visual form or in its expository concreteness – Sorkin’s tendency for rigor sometimes translates into somewhat cumbersome explanations – but where “The price of the network” What stands out is in its adequate and measured dose of humor, non-existent in the 2010 film, and in its delicious protagonist couple, which seems distilled from the best classic cinema.
