“We no longer need to be super active to know that the group is still alive”

There are groups that chase trends. Others end up creating them without intending to. After five years of apparent creative silence, Power Burkas they return with “Amb la fi al davant” (BCore Disc, 2026), an album that reaffirms their status as a cult band while a whole new batch of groups points them out as a reference.

Now we finish them the same as them”. Marcel refers to “Fer un grup”, a song by Power Burkas that plays at the end of all the gigs by Xantal Rodríguez’s group. “It was a song that we had discarded years ago. I don’t know why, since we never played it live, it stayed there. And after Remei recovered it, we wanted to do it again. All this new batch of bands that have us as references, generates new concerns in us. There are people who propose to collaborate with us and you end up working with people you didn’t know or who you didn’t even know very well what they did. And that’s fun. It’s like a constant recycling of Power Burkas, a way of saying: ‘Okay, this is still interesting to people of different generations, it’s still alive.’ In the end it gives you one more argument to continue making music.”

“With Power Burkas there was a moment, I don’t know exactly when, maybe five long years ago, when we understood that the group was already part of our life,” explains the singer and bassist. This new album is titled “Amb la fi al davant” and comes after five years of spiritual retreat. Half a life in the life of a group that was formed in 2013 and that published its first album, “Long live the tarannà” (BCore Disc / Famèlic, 2016), three years later. Then, at a more or less constant pace, they would come “Mai denied l’oci” (BCore Disc, 2019) and “Naïf, potser” (BCore Disc, 2021). “We still haven’t found a very clear explanation why so much time has passed between one album and the next, but five years goes a long way”. We could have thought: “Holy shit, on an album with more elaborate, longer or mid-tempo songs, they might still clash.” But no, because we are that too. It’s not like: “On this album it’s time to do country” either “on this album it’s time to do trance.” No. It’s simply doing what comes to you at that moment. And we still get songs with that urgency you talk about. But there is everything. Aleix said that this album is quite similar to the first, “Llarga vida al tarannà”, because of those more powerful songs. I, on the other hand, think not.”
