Francesco De Gregori, his “nevergreen” on TV tonight
The “Nevergreen – Perfette sscienzate” project, dedicated to the lesser-known songs of Francesco De Gregori, was born with the singer-songwriter’s residency at the Out Off Theater in Milan two years ago (here is our review). From there, he arrived at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival with the film “Francesco De Gregori – Nevergreen” by Stefano Pistolini.
“Francesco De Gregori – Nevergreen”, tonight Thursday 4 June, will be broadcast for the first time in prime time on Rai 3 and will subsequently remain available on RaiPlay.
The docufilm recounts the 2024 residency at the Out Off Theater in Milan: 20 concerts over the course of a month during which the singer-songwriter performed every evening, to an audience of only 200 people, a setlist selected from around seventy songs that he considers the least known of his production – or even the “perfect unknowns”, the nevergreens, never awarded the title of “evergreen”.
I saw the film this morning: which (fortunately) is not a biopic and not even a documentary like the many that have been inflicted on us in recent times; if anything, it is the film of a concert (indeed, of many summarized concerts) which does not resort to too many “talking heads” style statements (the interviewees talking about the protagonist), but instead plays on some semi-stolen “behind the scenes”, on clips of afternoon rehearsals, and on a bunch of songs sung and played live, some with the collaboration of friends and colleagues. Among all the participations (Malika Ayane, Elisa, Ligabue) I particularly liked those of Jovanotti (with a two-voice version of “Una città per canto”) and very much that of Zucchero (“Everybody’s talkin” by Harry Nilsson, “Diamante” and “I shall be released” in the Italian adaptation by De Gregori, “Come il giorno”): so different, the two artists, that they complement each other amiably. The ending was also beautiful, with the audience invited to dance the waltz to the notes of the only evergreen of the evening, “Buonanotte fiorellino”: Congratulations to the director.
On October 16, 2026, “Nevergreen (Perfect Strangers)” (Caravan, Friends & Partners / distribution Sony Music Italy), a live album that gives the public the best of the experience lived at the Out Off Theater. The album will be available on digital, CD and double vinyl.

After the success of the 2024 residency (20 concerts from 29 October to 23 November), Francesco De Gregori will return this autumn to perform live with “Nevergreen (Perfect Strangers)”, a series of intimate concerts that will once again take the audience on a journey through lesser-known songs and great hits from the singer-songwriter’s vast repertoire.
This time the residency will be double: from 27 October at the Teatro Sala Umberto in ROME and from 25 November it will return to the Teatro Out Off in MILAN.
