Motta presents an unreleased song on the MiAmi stage
“We tried it, so let’s do an experiment. We’ll call it a day.” ‘Survivors’but this unreleased song could also change its title. I want to introduce him to you.” So Motta, in front of a packed audience at the MiAmi Festival at the Idroscalo in Milan, played and sang a brand new song. A surprise that arrived after the celebration of “La fine dei vententa anni”, the 2016 album that changed his life. After having performed the songs of that project live, the singer-songwriter, to exorcise every form of nostalgia, he decided to look ahead, presenting an unreleased piece that comes three years after his last work, “La musica è finite”.
The song, still without a definitive title, recalls CCCP in its attitude and writing: verbose, antagonistic, shot through with references to fashionable intellectuals, capitalism and artists reduced to puppets. And he doesn’t even care about the “return of the guitars”, Motta sneers from the stage. A piece that suggests the direction of a possible new album: perhaps less introspective than his latest works, more focused on what happens around him, on the reality he observes, on the rubble that surrounds us. The MiAmi live show, overall, was very powerful: energetic, vital, tight. Once again Motta demonstrated how the live dimension remains his main strength. On stage with him Roberta Sammarelli on bassnow a stable presence in the lineup after leaving Verdena, Giorgio Maria Condemi on guitar, Cesare Petulicchio on drums and Francesco Chimenti on keyboards. To sing “La fine dei twenty years” he also arrived as a special guest Appino so that “my friend” evoked in the song would not remain just a thought.
