Lenny Kaye debuts as a soloist

At 79 years old, after over half a century of activity, debut solo album for Lenny Kaye: the historic Patti Smith Group guitarist will release “Goin’ Local” on July 17th.

A central figure of the American rock scene, Kaye is known not only for his long association with Patti Smith, but also for his work in rediscovering the garage rock and psychedelia of the Sixties: even before starting his association with the singer, in 1972 he edited the legendary compilation “Nuggets”, considered one of the most influential collections in the history of rock, which contributed to defining an aesthetic and imagery that was then fundamental to punk and the garage revival. Alongside his career on stage, Kaye has worked as a producer and collaborator for several artists, including Suzanne Vega, Kristen Hersh and Soul Asylum.

“Goin’ Local” comes after a long activity as a guitarist and author alongside Patti Smith. There are some guests on the album: Patti Smith co-wrote the song “Solstice”; “Let’s Make a Memory” features jazz pianist Matthew Shipp; “Pennsylvania Girls” features violinist Tim Carbone; while David Mansfield provided a string arrangement for the final track “Yes I Will”. Otherwise, Kaye plays guitar and pedal steel, accompanied by local rhythm sections. The title track is already available
