The Marra Block Party raised over 230 thousand euros for Barona
What was the Marra Block Party? It’s difficult to enclose it in a single definition, because it was many things at once. It was a concert experienced in the square and in the street, and also from the windows, roofs and balconies of the buildings, with a privileged view of the stage in via Enrico De Nicola, in Barona. Seeing entire families out enjoying the day with smiles on their faces was an image almost from neo-realist cinema.. So yes, it certainly represented a neighborhood party, capable of uniting different generations and desired by its people local hero Marracashbut first of all it was a charity event with a strong social impact: over 230,000 euros were raised thanks to the contributions of the 7,400 present and the sponsors involved, destined for the redevelopment of the sports facilities near the school in via Enrico De Nicola, the Istituto Comprensivo Sant’Ambrogio, attended in his youth by the rapper himself.
It was a live deeply rooted in the hip hop spiritlinked to the origins and stories of a community, all elements that ended up in the artist’s songs, which shaped his imagination, hence the desire, after the peak of the stadium tour in 2025, to want to give something back to his area, putting this operation is underway in synergy with Municipality 6, chaired by Santo Minniti, and with Friends & Partners. “I’m more excited this evening than when I did San Siro – says Marra shortly after going on stage accompanied by DJ Ty1 – I’ve always wanted to do a live show like this, among my people.” A block party capable of uniting pop and popular, keeping Elodie togetherwho arrived on stage as a surprise to sing “No love songs” with Marra, a wide-eyed moment that has already gone viral on social media, and Mrs Katia, in the audience, almost eighty years old“proudly raised in the Bay of Kings and linked to the Barona”, in love with Vasco as much as with Marra.
A block party capable of combining a certain tacky and streetwise pride of thousands of kids with psychoanalysis, thanks to the presence of a gazebo from the project Jonas Onlus Milan by Massimo Recalcati (info here) which will activate a social help desk in the neighborhood for assistance to those seeking to listen and psychological support. “This type of help has helped me a lot, take this opportunity,” encourages Marra. A block party, whose only negative aspect was the presence of tokens for the stands, able to celebrate the rise of the King of rap and at the same time to offer a platform to young talents and to the old glories. Before his performance, in fact, they performed: Chef P & 2P, the Bandits crew, breakdance and dance group, R1Mka, Elylaba, Xmikeyi, Yas Laba, YEB, Mimmoflos, Abby 6ix and Ramethe latter returned to the stage at the end of the live show to present the unreleased song with Marracash “Something that shines”.
And then his music, of course: it certainly wasn’t proposed a “random” lineupbut an identity story built around the word, the neighborhood, and how that dimension shapes and then tests. Among the strongest moments, in addition to the historical pieces linked to the Barona, also “King of rap” with the arrival on stage of the producer Deleterio, “15 floors” with Sfera Ebbastaanother special guest “here for the people”, the interpretation of “Weight” with the queue shouting “I’m twenty years old and I don’t know what to invent”, by “Victim” in which Marra explained that passage from feeling like a victim to refusing to vent his anger on others, taking on his own responsibilities and transforming that adolescent frustration into energy, up to the true poetry of “The crumbs were enough” and to the fury of “64 bars of fear”a kind of collective outburst.
The message is clear: from the story of the neighborhood as a cage we come to recognize it as its origin. No longer just a space that limits, but a place that shapes, that it imposes an individual awareness without severing the link with the community. It is here that Marracash’s speech becomes clearer: growing up does not mean isolating oneself, but learning to stay within a community without giving in to disintegration, today encouraged by contemporary society, by capitalism and its competitive logic. In this sense, the Marra Block Party immediately abdicated from being a simple musical event, “everyone worked for free today, including me, for a good cause”, smiles Marra, to become a political gesture in the broadest sense of the term: an act of popular and identity joy, in which the peripheral neighborhood is no longer the margin, but the center, no longer a wound, but a shared language where everyone can do their part to improve it.
