Bruce Springsteen, an event to celebrate American song
The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music will be inaugurated in New Jersey in June with a mega event entitled “Music America: The Songs That Shaped Us”: two days, June 4th and 5th at the OceanFirst Bank Center, which precede the official opening ceremony of the center, scheduled for June 7th.
The initiative, for the 250th anniversary of the United States, will see the participation of Bruce Springsteen, but also Jon Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne, Public Enemy, Mavis Staples, Gary Clark Jr., Kenny Chesney, Rosanne Cash, Trombone Shorty and Steven Van Zandt. His band, the Disciples of Soul, will act as the house band and each artist will perform historic songs of American music, with a story of their importance
“It’s a journey through the history of American music,” said the center’s executive director, Robert Santelli. “The concerts reflect what the Bruce Springsteen Center represents: the power of music to unite, the richness and diversity of the American musical tradition as a mirror of national culture and a stimulus to reflect on our shared history.”
The center has launched the “Music America” project as early as 2024, including the traveling exhibition “Iconic Objects from America’s Music History.” It will also host the fourth annual “American Music Honors” at the Pollak Theater on April 18, with tributes to Dionne Warwick, Patti Smith, Dr. Dre, the E Street Band and The Doors.
